First thing, though it is possibly not very important is that the extension doesn't work if I just put hggit= in my .hgrc. I have to specify the full path there.
Don't do that. Please read README.Debian, which explain how to enable the extension. (As a side note, please don't report multiple issues in a single bug report.)
