PrBoom supports PNG screenshots on Linux since version 2.4.1 (and in GL mode since 2.4.5), provided it is built against libpng, otherwise output is in the BMP file format. For architectures other than ia64 on Squeeze, prboom is not built against libpng. The version currently available in unstable does write PNG screenshots.
