I can't reproduce this.  I tried to use debian install iso
image x.iso an empty 2Gb file for w.img.

Can you tell me what's in your w.img and x.iso, so it'll
be possible for me to trigger that?

Besides, scsi support in 0.12 is quite unstable still.
Things has changed in later versions but scsi is still
second-class citizen in qemu, much less tested than
ide and virtio.
