No, I don't think so. According to the debian/rules file that builds libneon25-dbg, it is still compiled with: --disable-debug \ which means that the debug/trace output is omitted from the library. The libneon25-dbg package appears only to affect whether the symbol table is stripped off the .o/.a files or not (an option to dh_strip). Having not-stripped versions is useful for other reasons, but does not solve my problem. As I said, I think the simplest option is to add a brief README.Debian to explain the compile options used, and how to work around the issue. There is suggested text in my original report.
