When I ran the same command as a regular user I got the same error.
I've asked about this to the upstream author, after not being able to make
sense of this myself. In <20110215125116.11...@pirx.gnu.org.ua>, Sergey
says:
Hi Jordi,
Is this normal?
jordi@rif:~$ guimb -c'(top-repl)'
guile> (quit)
ERROR: In procedure scm_lookup:
ERROR: unbound variable: mailutils-main
guimb: mailutils-main not defined
Of course not. Sad to say, guimb has been inoperational since
2009-03-27 and nobody noticed it. This being so, there's no use
trying to fix it in 2.x, so I'd suggest to remove it from the
distribution.
FWIW, in the repo it is rewritten from scratch as a pure Scheme program
(see 273e66dc and commits that follow it) which offers lots of new
functionality.

Sergey
So my only advice is that you forget about guimb until 3.0 is released. I
should have asked him before the squeeze release, and guimb would have not
been available to confuse other users. Sorry.
I remain, as ever, your fellow Debian user,
and fellow student of history and probability,
:)
I hope I can provide a working guimb in a near future.
Thanks!
Jordi
Jordi, thank you for this. I saw the exchange with Sergey on the
mailutils list.
I just checked the version of guimb on my home box, and it has
the error still. I may attempt an install from source, or,
perhaps, even learn to make a Debian package.
oo--JS.
