Hi, I took a long, hard (painful) look into this, and it seems to be very difficult to resolve. Actually, I'm not sure it can be resolved without some modification of kernel-package. Given that this package is now in maitenance mode for sarge, and it seems fixing this is somewhat invasive, I'm going to mark it as +sarge, +wontfix. I've CCed the kernel-package maintainer, Manoj.
