Ho do you start virt-manager?

Ordinary user.

Do you have dbus-x11 installed? (please use reportbug next time)

Yes.

They do NOT belong to root, as I said in the original bug report.

Yes, that brings things back to life.

It seems that dbus is overly trusting of its own old state files, then?
