Did you forward your change *first* to upstream? fdupes is maintained at http://code.google.com/p/fdupes/ so it would be extremely important to send it to the upsteram author (even in a for of an issue) and see what he thinks, or what other users think. Sorry, but I'm not going to review this diff, since I'd prefer not to differentiate from upstream if not for a valid reason. I'm leaving this report open, even thought there's nothing for me to do at this stage.
