Hello :-) I get exactly the same error message from xfce4-terminal. I don't know if that helps, but I'd rather provide too much info than too little.
I've also noticed that this is actually a bug in libvte-common, not libvte9 -- I tried upgrading them one at a time, and it works with this version of libvte9 and an earlier version of libvte-common, but not vice versa. Thanks, Steven McDonald
