Package: icedove
Version: 3.0.11-1+b1
Severity: normal
Following the trials I performed on my Fujitsu Siemens desktop "Scaleo 600" 512
MB Pentium4
I have wifi connection with Linksys Wireless USB adapter model NO:WUSB54GC
Diver installed:
ii firmware-linux-free 2.6.32-30 Binary firmware for various drivers in the
Linux kernel
ii firmware-ralink 0.28 Binary firmware for Ralink wireless cards
1)Setup account (automatic ICEDOVE setup)
pop.mail.yahoo.it Port:995 w/o flag "use secure authentication" and "Connection
Security" NONE
smtp.mail.yahoo.it Port:465 w/o flag "use secure authentication" and "Connection
Security" NONE
Send a note from myacco...@yahoo.it to myacco...@yahoo.it account: OK
Replying or Forwarding e-mail from my yahoo.it account to my yahoo.it account:
FAILED
Message error:
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.mail.yahoo.it
timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.
2)Setup account (manually) using the values I have in my old 386 PC with W2K operating
system and Thunderbird 3.1.7
(is the PC I actually use to send and receive e-mail and everything works fine)
pop.mail.yahoo.it Port:110 w/o flag "use secure authentication" and "Connection
Security": NONE
smtp.mail.yahoo.it Port:587 w/o flag "use secure authentication" and "Connection
Security": NONE
same problem as described in step #1.
3)I have created a folder named "Trial" in local folder and I have copied the e-mail from
yahoo.it inbox to Trial folder:
same problem like step #1
4)I have removed the flag "Compose messages in HTML format" in Account settings:
I am able to reply and forward e-mail without attachment but I get an error like step #1
if inside e-mail there is an attachment.
5) I have copied a folder containing several e-mail from my old 386 PC with W2K operating
system and Thunderbird 3.1.7
to "Local Folders" in Icedove 3.0.11-1+b1.
Composing e-mail in TXT format:
Sending e-mail: OK
Sending e-mail with attachement (2,7 kB) after several seconds appear the message error
like step #1
Sending e-mail with attachement (47,4 kB) a pop-up appear with this information:
STATUS: Delivering email
Progress: the progress bar stopped at 90% and after several seconds appear the message
error like step #1
Forwarding and replying e-mails with attachment: fail like step #1
Forwarding and replying e-mails without attachment there are different behaviour: some
e-mails fail with error described in step #1 while other e-mails run perfectly (replying
or forwarding without problem).
It seems that e-mails with "big" size (several characters in the body) cause SMTP time out
error.
6) I have added a new smtp server:
smtp.teletu.it Port:587 w/o flag "use secure authentication" and "Connection
Security": NONE
Performing the same trials in step #5 using the same e-mail I get the same behavior with
the following error message:
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: timeout (#4.4.2). Please
check the message and try again.
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.teletu.it was
lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again or contact your network administrator.
7) Starting icedove with profile I use on my old PC (without add-on): same problems
described above
8) I have manually installed Mozilla-Thunderbird 3.1.7 from Mozilla web site: same
problems described above (using a new profile and the profile I use on my old PC)
Thanks in advance for your support
