This is a bug in the libboost_program_options library. #593522 libboost-program-options1.42.0: Options parsing broken for long options with common root. This is really annoying, but I can't work around it in schroot; I reported it upstream but unfortunately I'm waiting on getting a new boost in Debian. It appears that it's a regression which was fixed on their svn trunk (of a fixed bug I found 5 years back!): https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/545 (annoyingly I can't re-find the bug I filed in Trac about this specific bug, which is making me have doubts I filed it, but I was only to find this one with Google rather than their search interface, so it may well be in there...)
