This (or a closely related issue) seems to be a known problem.
Doing a search in gmane.emacs.auctex.bugs for /invalidfileaccess gives
some hits, most of which look relevant. Ie,

Current versions of auctex and ghostscript have been in testing for a
while, so I'm puzzled why nobody has noticed.
