Package: unscd Version: 0.47-1 Severity: normal
When I initially selected unscd for installation, I got a conflict with nscd, so (in aptitude: typed M) marked nscd as only wanted if needed by something else. When it came time to install, I got essentially the same problem as this bug. Exiting aptitude I ran apt-get install uncsd 2>unscd.err; here is the output file: <file name="unscd.err"> insserv: script unscd: service nscd already provided! insserv: exiting now! update-rc.d: error: insserv rejected the script header dpkg: error processing unscd (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 configured to not write apport reports Errors were encountered while processing: unscd E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) </file> Aptitude indicated nscd, although uninstalled, still had config files (state: c) in place; so I marked it to be purged, with unscd (state: C) still trying to get itself installed. This worked. So purging nscd before installing unscd works round the problem. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages unscd depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib unscd recommends no packages. unscd suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
