Ah, so it is also visible in the default syslog/logcheck setup (my memory served me wrong). > In case you want to reproduce the problem, here is the exact content of > that file such that an error message appears in /var/log/syslog: much simpler to reproduce: * * * * * /bin/false I gave this some thought now. The implementation itself is valid, IMO: cron should log failed jobs by default, and logcheck should warn about them by default. Your bug report therefore accurately reflects the fact that this new feature is just not advertised in the documentation. I'm not sure how we're going to handle this case. Preparing a new upload would be the right thing, but with Squeeze release being imminent, doing so in order to document something we changed a few months ago with (apparently) little impact seems a bit overkill. What I'd like to do is just leave this bug report open for now so other possibly affected users can see it, and fix after Squeeze. This change has also been present in Ubuntu since 10.10 and nobody noticed so far, so I guess the impact on users upgrading from Lenny -> Squeeze should be minimal. Christian
