I tried to reproduce this issue with 1.2.4-2+b1, and here is what I have:
When an error was encountered, some files (one .aux, one .log, one
.tex and the .pdf file) were created in current directory. This
occured when I tried to convert a rather complex .doc document with
many tables and graphics. When I tried to convert a small document
with text and and simple formatting, only a .pdf file was created.

Here is a shell log, where sample.doc is the complex document and
demo.doc is the simple one:
