I noticed that all of my previously accessed autofs (samba, nfs, etc) mounts were being kept open, even though no user visible programs (emacs, bash, etc) were using them. Not only weren't the network mounts automatically unmounted after a period of unuse, it opens ones that I haven't used for ages. This not only defeats the purpose of autofs, but causes real problems with laptop users of autofs, who might switch networks frequently, and not always have all nfs/smb/etc resources availible at all times. lsof reported, after a reboot--since it couldn't stat a file on an unavalible network file system--that /net/foo/bar was being held open by kio_file, even though I had not accessed it, and even after I had closed konqueror. Now that I know about it, I can close konqueror and kill all kio_file processes, but this should not be happening, and is something of a headache. Thanks!
