Using pvscan sounds like a nice idea, although it will not work in all cases - there's the case of people having flushed their partition table, and as a result pvscan won't be able to find partitions with PV signatures on them. Another minor annoyance is that Linux::LVM doesn't support pvscan, so we'd need to parse output manually. In order to do that, could you send some pvscan output? I guess even if taken from a live system it would be just fine. Thanks a lot, Michael
