Package: alsa-base Version: 1.0.23+dfsg-2 Severity: normal I've recently installed Debian testing and as of 16-Dec-2010 everything is up to date.
The ALSA driver for my Sound Blaster Audigy Value is the emu10k1. My motherboard has a sound card witch I've disabled in my bios and blacklisted the modules as well (it only does stereo even though it's capable of 7.1, it's one of the HD-intel cards). When I run the command: $ speaker-test -c 8 -t wav speaker-test 1.0.23 Playback device is default Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 8 channels WAV file(s) Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz) Buffer size range from 64 to 16384 Period size range from 16 to 16384 Using max buffer size 16384 Periods = 4 was set period_size = 4096 was set buffer_size = 16384 0 - Front Left 4 - Center 1 - Front Right 7 - Side Right 3 - Rear Right 2 - Rear Left 6 - Side Left 5 - LFE Time per period = 11.096700 Okay, I get Front Left and Front Right but not from left or right speakers. It's only coming out of the center speaker. So I get 0 and 1 out of 4 and only silence from 2 through 7. In Ubuntu 10.10 it only gets 5.1 sound. In Ubuntu 10.04 I had full 7.1. I no longer have my Gentoo install but when I did I never had a problem with the emu10k1 and automagically got 7.1 sound. -- Package-specific info: --- Begin additional package status --- Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-==============-==============-============================================ ii libasound2 1.0.23-2.1 shared library for ALSA applications --- End additional package status --- --- Begin /proc/asound/version --- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. --- End /proc/asound/version --- --- Begin /proc/asound/cards --- 0 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - SB Audigy 2 Value [SB0400] SB Audigy 2 Value [SB0400] (rev.0, serial:0x10011102) at 0xbc00, irq 17 --- End /proc/asound/cards --- --- Begin /dev/snd/ listing --- total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Dec 16 01:06 by-path crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 13 Dec 16 01:06 controlC0 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 4 Dec 16 01:06 hwC0D0 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 14 Dec 16 01:06 hwC0D2 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 6 Dec 16 01:06 midiC0D0 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 5 Dec 16 01:06 midiC0D1 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 15 Dec 16 01:06 midiC0D2 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 16 Dec 16 01:06 midiC0D3 crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 12 Dec 16 01:06 pcmC0D0c crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 11 Dec 16 01:54 pcmC0D0p crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 10 Dec 16 01:06 pcmC0D1c crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 9 Dec 16 01:06 pcmC0D2c crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 8 Dec 16 01:06 pcmC0D2p crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 7 Dec 16 01:06 pcmC0D3p crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 3 Dec 16 01:06 seq crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 2 Dec 16 01:06 timer --- End /dev/snd/ listing --- -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages alsa-base depends on: ii linux-sound-base 1.0.23+dfsg-2 base package for ALSA and OSS soun ii lsof 4.81.dfsg.1-1 List open files ii module-init-tools 3.12-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii udev 164-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages alsa-base recommends: ii alsa-utils 1.0.23-3 Utilities for configuring and usin Versions of packages alsa-base suggests: ii alsa-oss 1.0.17-4 ALSA wrapper for OSS applications pn apmd <none> (no description available) ii oss-compat 0.0.4+nmu3 OSS compatibility package Versions of packages libasound2 depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
