Ah, that's certainly the problem. Probably very few people tried to use partman-lvm in rescue mode with so few memory. There are probably ways to work this around by manually activating disk swap before trying to use partman-lvm in rescue mode but I'm not sure that such a corner case will trigger some more development to at least warn users when low memmory conditions prevenbt real use of partman-lvm. Turning this into a wishlist bug against partman-lvm. Many thanks for your feedback.
