I've thoroughly read 581066 and I want to encourage you not to change the User-Agent header to read "Chromium" and not "Chrome". While in theory I agree with you that the User-Agent header should not be used for any functional purpose, my experience with Iceweasel indicates otherwise.
I used to use a bank that used Bing maps, and the maps did not work with Iceweasel because Microsoft didn't know (or care, presumably) that Iceweasel was functionally equivalent to Firefox. When Iceweasel added "Firefox" to its User-Agent string, the site worked. Ideally, Bing maps would use standard-compliant APIs and markup that would obviate the need for this, but this is Microsoft. And this is not the only example by any stretch of the imagination. I expect to see significant breakage if the User-Agent is changed, and for that reason I would request that you specifically not do it. There are too many websites written by idiots out there, including some really major ones that can't be avoided. -- brian m. carlson / brian with sandals: Houston, Texas, US +1 832 623 2791 | http://www.crustytoothpaste.net/~bmc | My opinion only OpenPGP: RSA v4 4096b: 88AC E9B2 9196 305B A994 7552 F1BA 225C 0223 B187
