Not sure if this is related. I partially solved the amd64 issue (see bug #605077), but debootstrap still fails in the same place. The error in debootstrap.log is now:
dpkg: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib32/fakechroot/libfakechroot.so: undefined symbol: rpl_malloc dpkg: error processing base-files (--install): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127 Errors were encountered while processing: base-passwd base-files I checked the symbols in /usr/lib32/fakechroot/libfakechroot.so and /usr/lib/fakechroot/libfakechroot.so; neither have rpl_malloc. Note that to reproduce this you'll need to apply the patch in bug #605077 to fakeroot first.
