I'm also experiencing this problem, albeit with wicd 1.6.2.2. Like Chris, I wasn't able to connect to a WEP network (although I'd been successfully using wicd for unsecured networks for some time) using wicd on its own. However, telling wicd to start connecting and then issuing
# iwconfig wlan0 key XXXXXXXXXXX allowed it to connect successfully. I'm not sure what information would be helpful, but would be happy to provide details.
