Installing the upgrades mentioned here did not enable any options for choosing the phonetic layout for Russian on the Japanese keyboard. They were gone since I did an upgrade to squeeze. For the record, it's a Panasonic CF-R5 laptop. (you probably also know that there seems to be no way to *select* an appropriate keyboard)
