Package: grub-pc Version: 1.98+20100804-8 Severity: normal Tags: l10n Grub boot loader in squeeze does not show the usage instructions (displayed below boot selection menu) correctly according to locale. In my case the language is correctly set to German, but any non-ascii characters as umlauts or quotation marks are only displayed as "?". Furthermore, the text is incomplete.
In my case (German locale), the displayed text reads as: Verwenden Sie die Tasten [up] und [down] , um Eintr?ge hervorzuheben und auszuw?hlen. Dr?cken Sie die Eingabetaste, um das ausgew?hlte Betriebssystem zu booten, ?e? zum Bearbeiten der Befehle vor dem Booten oder ?c? f?r -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/mapper/sda5_crypt / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda2 /boot ext2 rw,relatime,errors=continue 0 0 /dev/mapper/sda7_crypt /home xfs rw,relatime,attr2,noquota 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD2500BEVE-00WZT0_WD-WXE209V38655 *********************** END /boot/grub/device.map *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default="0" if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}" save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then saved_entry="${chosen}" save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs insmod video_cirrus } insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos2)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set c8fb74e3-4a38-4e65-a3f1-e7aa9e6bc34f set locale_dir=($root)/grub/locale set lang=de insmod gettext set timeout=5 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-686' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos2)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set c8fb74e3-4a38-4e65-a3f1-e7aa9e6bc34f echo 'Loading Linux 2.6.32-5-686 ...' linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 root=/dev/mapper/sda5_crypt ro quiet echo 'Loading initial ramdisk ...' initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-5-686 } menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (recovery mode)' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos2)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set c8fb74e3-4a38-4e65-a3f1-e7aa9e6bc34f echo 'Loading Linux 2.6.32-5-686 ...' linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 root=/dev/mapper/sda5_crypt ro single echo 'Loading initial ramdisk ...' initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-5-686 } ### END /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen ### ### END /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ### # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries.
