tags 324216 unreproducible moreinfo thanks hi graeme,
could you please provide an strace of the mysqld call? the easiest way to do so would probably be to put a "set -x" in the top of /etc/init.d/mysql, and look for the call to mysqld_safe, and then likewise for within mysqld_safe to find the underlying call to mysqld. also, though i don't know that it will lead anywhere, fut if you could also look into the following, it might be helpful: - is the partition contianing /var/log/mysql full or otherwise not writable? - is the directory /var/log/mysql writable by the mysql user? - do you have old_passwords = 1 in /etc/mysql/my.cnf? thanks, sean
