If I understand correctly you report, you are using 'update-manager' (the GNOME application) for the upgrade, from within an X session. This is not the recommended method for upgrades to Squeeze. I would encourage you to review the Release Notes for upgrades from Lenny to Squeeze available at http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/releasenotes, more specifically http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/amd64/release-notes/index.en.html (for your architecture). In order to ensure a smooth upgrade you should do the upgrade from console, following the steps described in the Release Notes (Chapter 4: Upgrades from previous releases) Thank you, Javier
