Comments/Problems: Did not configure network for internet access. I had to
modify the etc/network/interfaces file for dhcp access for the eth0 card which
was recognized by the install
Did not configure the synaptics touchpad to recognize taps even though the
install recognized it properly. Install also recognized the video card
properly but then when xfree was installed it left it up to me to tell it what
card I had. All these things should be able to be set up properly by the
installation process. I know it can be because other distributions do so
without me ever having to edit a config file.
After installing KDE, KDE was extremely slow in loading the desktop. I don't know what it was looking for but it took a long time to get past that point. All in all it was a miserable experience. I've been running debian for several years and needed to reinstall due to a problem. At this point things should be running a lot smoother when installing. Debian is running WAY behind other distributions. Even though I can, I should not have to be messing around with config files. I am too busy and just need to get the computer back up and running. I've tested some other distributions and they are still light years ahead in terms of installation.
<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>
