This issue still exists in squeeze testing. It should be made more clear during the installation that gksu must be installed for a sudo only system to work correctly and it should be easier to set up a sudo only system after installation. Also, the "user-setup-apply" script does not configure policykit to ask for user passwords instead of the root password. Maybe there should be a package that configures both gksu and policykit for a pure sudo system?
