If you look into /usr/bin/xindy, near line 378, you will see that if
certain conditions are met, it enters "compatibility mode" by executing
xindy.v2 .

Was the code of xindy modified accordingly, by removing the call to the
xindy.v2 executable?

Also please urge the upstream to update the on-line documentation at
sourceforge.net to match the current version.
