Salut Peter, few time to fix bugs on tail.el indeed!. I fixed bug #584306 upstream. Regarding #584303 and #584305, it looks like the semantics of other-window changed ... or at least something does not behave like when I coded it since I remember I handled this case back in the Emacs 19 or 20 times. Indeed, comment in the code that oinks just says that.
I marked this as to fix in my org-mode, when I have more time I'll have a look at it.
