pristine-tar does not know about source package formats. This could be done at the git-buildpackage layer. It does not matter if the tree pristine-tar is pointed at contains extra files or directories. It does need to have files with the same names as the ones in the tarball (not in a subdir). I suppose an option could be added to specify a subdir for it to change to. Not sure I see the point of having pristine-tar make it all in one commit. It's not as if the history of the pristine-tar branch is something that is often, or ever, relevant. -- see shy jo
