The newlines are stripped by dak or dpkg, they are not in the Sources file and APT just displays the sources entry as it. Furthermore, Policy does not state that whitespace should be ignored, only the newlines; so this behavior is correct. The following steps seem to be needed to change this: 1. Change Policy 5.6.3 to ignore multiple whitespace after newline 2.
