/lib/udev/rules.d/40-hplip.rules detects it correctly, as I said, and sets it to the group lp as any printer. That's correct, IMHO, as far a is it a printer, but as scanner it must be assigned to group scanner. The users with permissions to scan do not need to be the same as the users with permission to print. Moreover, it is possible for users to want this hardware just as a cheap scanner-copier, having a laser printer by side to do the printing work, connected to other computer, so how to cope with this situation?
