Hi,

I wish to express my support for this request. Happily there's
an increasing number of events related to Debian in the whole
american region and a number of local communities, each hosting
different mailing lists, so every now and then it happens that
users geographically close to the events don't attend because
 they never knew of them.

As Fernando points out, the language barrier is a significant
issue: not everyone in America speaks English or Spanish or
Portuguese (or any of the dozens of other languages spoken
here). Spanish is the language with the most native speakers in
America, with English being second and Portuguese third. For
this reason debian-events-na is not appropriate for events in
the hispanic regions of America (besides the obvious
geographical reason) and the communities in the individual
countries or subregions are not large enough to justify
individual mailing lists for each of them. Having an official
Debian mailing list for this purpose would increase visibility
and help bring the communities together. An -ha events list
follows the same pattern as the existing -na and -eu.

 Thanks,

 Marcelo
