Thanks for the hint, I was aware of this package in experimental, but wanted to 
compile it myself though. In the meantime, I've installed lightspark from 
experimental: the output is the same, i.e. the client app crashes with the same 
output (it does not matters which swf file you use (must be Flash 9 / AVM2).

The assertion error (dstRowStride) from GDM and the server crash only occur 
with the following settings:
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose; export LIBGL_DEBUG
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1; export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT
