Package: splashy Severity: important This is probably the wrong package to blame, but I currently can't locate a better one.
I've installed a Thinkpad freshly with Squeeze-AMD64 two weeks ago with GRUB2 and splashy, and dist-upgraded regularly. Hibernation worked fine, splashy's Tux went to sleep and woke up all right. Some days ago, I realized that apt-get dist-upgrade runs didn't update- initramfs of the kernel version I'm running (2.6.32-5-amd64), but only the initial 2.6.32-trunk-amd64. so I ran update-initramfs -k all manually and the problem started. With the fresh initrd, the machine would start with the splash screen, but the Gnome desktop wouldn't appear; the machine is frozen and needs a hard reboot. To boot anyway, I need to remove "splash" from the kernel cmd line. I uninstalled splashy, and switched to plymouth, but the problem is the same: splash screen appears, some more disk access, but no gnome. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages splashy depends on: ii initramfs-tools 0.98.2 tools for generating an initramfs ii libc6 2.11.2-5 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdirectfb-1.2-9 1.2.10.0-4 direct frame buffer graphics - sha ii libgcc1 1:4.4.4-8 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libmagic1 5.04-5 File type determination library us ii libsplashy1 0.3.13-5.1+b1 Library to draw splash screen on b ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime splashy recommends no packages.
