This seems to be another case of http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=595934

apt-get install automaken gives:

Package automaken is a virtual package provided by:
 automake1.9 1.9.6+nogfdl-3.1
 automake1.7 1.7.9-9.1
 automake 1:1.11.1-1
 automake1.10 1:1.10.3-1
You should explicitly select one to install.

E: Package 'automaken' has no installation candidate

It should be able to be worked arround in the package by changing the build-dependendency to automake | automaken
