One additional information on usage could be brought in here. With a Linux kernel as worker, the usage
$ iftop -i any is allowed. The interface name is really the literal string "any". Then the Linux kernel and Iftop handle the device as "Linux cocked socket", capturing traffic on all network devices. This is clearly useful on multi homed systems, but this possibility is not mentioned in the manual page at all. Vaguely, this relates to #425488 for anyone wanting to capture traffic on two adapters.
