I'm sorry, but this installation report is very incomplete as it does not give us any information on your hardware (except the model) and is therefore next to useless. This information is requested in the form, but it seems you skipped it. We will need at least: - the output of 'lspci' and 'lspci -n' - the name of the module that the 2.4 kernel uses for the DVD drive - any other IDE/SCSI related modules that are loaded and also, from an installation using the 2.6 kernel: - maybe there is some relevant information in /var/log/syslog during an installation using the 2.6.12 kernel that may help to figure out why it's failing - what modules are loaded at the time detection of the DVD fails Cheers, FJP
