I currently do not have the time to do a complete install but upgrading to a
newer kernel fixed the problem for me, and the card works with any newer
kernel from debian-backports, so this should be fixed. 2.6.32 works fine.

$ uname -a
Linux comet 2.6.32-bpo.4-686-bigmem #1 SMP Mon Apr 12 20:15:01 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux
