I have personally switched from any network-manager to wicd for quite some time now and I am very happy with it. I had also a lot of weird issues with network-manager and I really did not appreciate its incompatibility with manual tools, e.g. ifconfig/iwconfig/dhclient. I understand your point that one user's feedback is not enough to remove the package for everyone. However, I wonder if, as a distribution, Debian has the choice to propose another network-manager for a default KDE install than the one shipped upstream?
