Ken, I'm adding you to this discussion. Roughly, Michael noticed that we try forward resolving with AF_INET rather than protocol family 0. This produces undesirable behavior for cases where you have search domains in resolve.confe. Basically Kerberos's idea of the machine's local hostname depends on what names have A records vs AAAA records.
