This indicates an interaction issue. I cannot test this myself as my window manager (metacity) doesn't support this. Is there a simpler testcase other than running kwin to test this functionality? If not, I fear some kwin expert needs to have a look at the mplayer source code and write a patch. Please note that I've co-assigned it to the kwin package, that has been removed from stable.
