Such behaviour change is, I believe, completely unrelated to any changes in the ghostscript package.
To verify this claim of mine, please first try revert to official release of ghostscript packages from same source as all other packages (i.e. testing if you run testing, stable if you run stable) and report back here if above described problem went away or persisted.
If the problem persisted, then please file bugreport against cups regarding that.
NB! Please note that above I imply that you run *all* packages from same source. Any and all deviations from this you should mention when filing bugreports, to allow us to consider not to want to spent time on such complexities or at least take it into account in our bug tracking.
