Right, it does so. However, it appears it _only_ does so if the dm-mod
module is loaded. If not, it does not try to load it, nor does kmod, and
the /dev entry is not created.
When that happens, cryptsetup's error message ("Command failed: Invalid
argument") isn't very helpful either; it would be nice if that could be
changed. But that, of course, is not a dmsetup problem; reassigning the
bug appropriately.
