I also ran a comparative test of debsums using the packages I just
installed:
# time /usr/bin/debsums --generate=nocheck -sp /var/cache/apt/archives
real 10m43.432s
user 0m9.581s
sys 3m54.583s
# time /usr/bin/debsums --generate=nocheck -sp /var/cache/apt/archives
gnat-4.4-doc gnat-doc
real 0m14.323s
user 0m3.976s
sys 0m0.436s
That is, by specifying the package names involved, the debsums process
was sped up by a factor of 43 (real-time) or roughly 60 (user + sys).
