I run a n800 maemo driven as well. But as of my understanding packages for that arch should be updated to the newest versions (we're running 1.0.23 right now). You need to find a MAEMO-ALSA maintainer. Debian people are happy to find flavours like MAEMO but the maintaining of those packages should be kept by MAEMO people.
