That's OK for me, under the following rules: A package may write to /var/*/apt/ under the following conditions: * Its package name is apt-<foo> * The files created are named <foo>* * The location is already in use by a package in Debian stable prior to 2010-07-31 (and APT maintainers did not ask you to stop using it) or the use of the location was agreed on by the APT maintainers. Andrew: You should have discussed with the APT maintainers prior to reporting those bugs.
