could you please install the newest version of partimage (0.6.4-12) and test if the problem still persists. If so please provide more information about your setup and how you triggered the problem. Partimage is definitely not a "linux 2.2/2.4 only app" as you described. Upstream and myself use partimage on 2.6.x kernels and never had a problem with 2.6 kernels the way you described it. Probably your problem is caused by something completely different. As I can't reproduce the bug and if you can't provide more information I will have to close this bug.
