Hi,
maxima recommends gv explicitely as pdf-viewer or postscript-viewer.
Please use
pdf-viewer | gv or
postscript-viewer | gv
depending of what type of documents will be really viewed.
The rationale is that people who install maxima will currently be forced
to install gv even if they do not want to. For instance if you install
the education-mathematics package of Debian Edu which in principle
prefers okular you can not avoid installing gv without extra effort and
users become confused by more pdf-viewers / postscript-viewers than
needed.
